In 2008, as local food movements

gained momentum across the world and in Hawaii, Dan Nakasone and I co-founded She Grows Food. Dan is a veteran organizer and supporter of farmers and ranchers since the early days of Hawaii Regional Cuisine Our intention was to shine the light on food-growing women and open up pathways for connection between them and food-loving communities. We did this through a lot of talk story, video profiles, as a well as a compendium of locally-grown foods we called Hawaii Food Map.

We also organized and hosted a conference for farmers and chefs called ‘The Future of Food” at Leeward Community College.
