kilns can be mysterious portals of transformation. sometimes creatures emerge altered in unexpected ways. these rare instances require an attentiveness to the freewill of the piece. often they are meant to remain as they are. other times, they request my assistance. these are not acts of repair, instead they are the agency of adornment.
i do not use traditional kintsugi material due to a sensitivity to tree sap. instead, marine epoxy and gold overglaze create a lasting hold.
this whale is black stoneware, kiln-fired at high temperature.
dimensions: 7.5 inches nose to tail, 3 inch wingspan, 3 inches tall.
